The Mountain Lake Migratory Bird Festival will be holding its sixth annual weekend of birding May 21-23, 2010. Again this year, we will be featuring an art contest with work by local students . We’d like to thank the student’s and teachers of Giles County schools who helped, encouraged and participated in last years art contest and invite you again this year. The artwork was very impressive and a big hit for all who attended the event.
We ask students to focus their art this on Virginia’s Birds. A list of the birds in this area which either were seen or can been seen is available as a download on this site. Please have your student’s choose a bird from that list.
Artwork will be exhibited in the main lobby of Mountain Lake Hotel during the festival.
Contest judging by local artists will completed the week prior to the festival. The three categories are: Grades 1-5, Grades 6-8, and Grades 9-12. A separate category, Participant’s Choice will be judged by festival participants as they arrive at the hotel on Friday. Cash prizes for the first three winners in each category will be $100, $50, and $25.
Announcement of the art winners will be held Friday night May 29 at 7:30 pm in the Conservancy Building. All student’s and parents are invited and encouraged to attend. For more information or questions, please call Peggy Opengari at 540-921-4340 or email: gramby@pemtel.net
